Resilience in the built environment

Alkimos Beach, WA. Lendlease and Western Australian Land Authority. 6 Star Green Star - Communities PILOT v0.1

Our communities and systems can be disrupted at any time by the impacts of events such as extreme weather, cyber-attacks and terrorism, or even significant infrastructure failure.

To minimise the impacts of shocks and stresses such as those above, the built environment needs to become more resilient.

This paper provides a background for understanding the topic of resilience in the built environment. The paper explains the role of resilience as a response to the megatrends impacting the built environment, outlines the key frameworks that are driving discussion and resilience thinking, and discusses the actions GBCA is taking to further grow industry’s understanding.
